Spring break is going to be a "blast" around here.... I am doing potty training boot camp with this independent, stubborn girl starting tomorrow morning. She is very excited about her princess panties thought I could have kicked W@lm@rt when I went to buy them today and they do not carry them in toddler sizes! I had to go ahead and buy whopping size 4 for her because she was set on princess panties. I might have to safety pin them to keep them on her.
Anyway, it should be interesting around here this week... please pray for us.... and send Dr. Pepper and chocolate!
Taryn was enjoy some bedtime work the other night... working away with the fire helmet, one glove and tools. I was totally cracking up. She kept telling me that she was "cooking" as she worked away on her bed.
This was her first night to wear a gown and I must say, she loved it. She twirled around and kept saying she was Minnie.
We have been blessed with some unseasonably warm weather lately. It's been a joy when we have gotten to enjoy it. We played at the church's playground on Monday after Children's Day Out. It was fun to let the kids run around in the gorgeous weather... not to mention, we had the playground to ourselves.
Nine years ago, we said "I do." We are still saying I do as we serve each other and serve together. It's been a blast and I can only forward to growing old with my sweet husband... and maybe one day I'll be able to fit into that dress again. One can dream, right?
You would have thought Granddaddy offered the world to the kids... the Dixon lawnmower rides brought big smiles from both kiddos.
They each got to drive by themselves. Cayson was very good at negotiating the yard and turning using the levers. Taryn drove as slow as a tortoise. She loved it though!
These are the memories they'll remember - fun afternoon lawnmower rides with Granddaddy.
1. I know posting has been zero. We've been going through a rough patch
around here. My mom has been in very bad health the past few weeks and
we've been focused on her and our little family. Mom is getting better -
it's been a slow process. I'll hopefully, get a post done dedicated to
that. She sees a specialist on Thursday whom we hope can shed some light
on the happenings because as of now, we have no answers.
2. On top of things, this sweet momma's boy was down for a week with what I am sure was the flu. :( Thankfully, he is back to his active self now.
3. If you are a lady in Oklahoma (any age!), please watch this video and plan to attend this wonderful women's event put on by a sweet friend, Cari. Seriously, it's going to be a faith building event for ladies that will totally rock your world! Online registration can be found here.
4. Taryn's bedtime prayers have become so fun to listen to lately. Most
of the time she points to things as she "ganks God" for it. Her prayers
usually go like this, "Gank you for my paci, gank you for bed, gank you
for door and hats, gank you for books, gank you for carseat, gank you
for Mommy, Daddy and Cayson. Amen" Some prayers, she lists all her
classmates and teachers from school too. I love it!
5. These kids really are such a blast to parent. Some days are trying, for sure. But really, how cute are they? I must note that we were parked at church - thus why Cayson is already unbuckled. Don't you love T's crooked sunglasses?
6. Dusty's nine year anniversary with the police department was March
10. He started working there only 5 days before our wedding... speaking
of, our anniversary is later this week. :)
7. This is one of my favorite shadow picture from a few weeks ago. Playing kids!
8. This boy.... his hair is long - hair cut is scheduled for next week. He is counting by 10's to 100. He knows all his letter sounds. He is destined to be smarter than his momma. Playing cars, pirates, knights, policeman are still his favorites. His picky eating is driving this momma crazy. He hit a HUGE milestone by quitting the thumb sucking. His one week reward was his very first taste of Coke. His second week reward was ice cream. Now, he wants to know what he gets this Saturday. Sneaky boy. He also got to pick out a prize from Momma at Walmart and a prize from his grandparents'. His choice? More police cars and an umbrella.
9. I've been itching to sew and finally made a little time to attempt a dress for Miss T using a tank top as the top. I love the main fabric - Amy Butler, of course.
10. Dusty and I were able to enjoy a nice little date last weekend. A very rare occasion... especially with all that is going on. My sis kept the kiddos and were able to go out for dinner and then take in an OKC Thunder game with our Sunday School class. We ended the evening with our first visit to Pinkitzel for cupcakes! None of my pics of Dusty and I turned out. Sad, sad.
We enjoyed a fabulous Sunday afternoon with warm temps and NO WIND. No wind is a big thing for our western Oklahoma town so the kids took advantage of it and dined on their raisins and generic vanilla wafers outdoors. Sunglasses were a must!
I am trying to be a little more present in photographs with the kids so that when we are old and decrepit, they'll have photographic proof that I existed. When I looked over our Christmas pics, I think I was in two or three pictures. I am always the one behind the camera - not in front of it!
So, we practiced taking a few self portraits with the big camera... not an easy task, by the way!
Taryn, like usual, was more interested in her snack then the camera.
We had a fun afternoon outside playing in sawdust, yeah, you read that right, and making fun shadows. More pics to come of that!
1. I made this little onesie for a new baby that will be here before long! The background is a blue chambray type fabric with a gold fleece star appliqued on top. I'm sure Baby Wyatt will look simply darling!
2. This is often the scene in our house.... kids attacking Daddy. This day, they were getting "airplane" rides.
3. I whipped up this little gift for Dusty for Valentine's Day.... I Velcro-ed a dry erase marker to the back. I thought it was a great gift for both of us because our secondary love language is words of affirmation so it's a perfect way for us to express our love.
4. Dusty snapped a few pictures of the kids playing in the snow last week with his phone. Cayson really enjoyed sledding and Taryn loved touching the snow!
5. Cayson has been grossing me out with some of his phrases... he told me the other night that he wasn't fond of my chicken "juice" aka broth. Ick! He asked me today if we had enough bacon juice (drippings) to make biscuits and gravy. Double gross!
6. Taryn found a buddy to color with at the SWOSU basketball game on Saturday. I thought they were so cute coloring in her Princess coloring book!
7. We got a little surprise at the basketball game as they presented an
award to the Ryan brothers during a timeout.... as in, Rex Ryan, the
head coach of the NY Jets and Rob Ryan, defensive coach for the Dallas
Cowboys. Kind of a big deal for our small town! You can read more here.
8. Taryn is talking up a storm. She surprises us every day with her ability to put together full, complex sentences. I will say that I appreciate her ability to communicate... I can ask her just about anything and get a truthful answer. Some days, I wonder if she's a 13 year old trapped in a 2 year old's body. She definitely has the teenage drama down! She has also perfected begging with her "Pleeeeeeeaaaase, pleeeeeeeaaaaaase." She is also excelling in her climbing abilities and bottle opening abilities. Yay for me! (Not!)
9. I am doing a giveaway over on my other blog. You don't have to be a blogger member to enter - just fill in your info on the comment form! Go enter to win!!!!
10. Please remember my mom in your prayers this week. She is going through some very difficult heath issues right now. She is in excruciating pain and it is beyond awful. We are all praying for healing for her poor body.
I clearly remember Valentine's Day of my childhood - we usually
delivered baked goodies to our grandparents including my great-grandma. I
also remember the little goodies my parents gave us to celebrate ~ I
still have a kitty cat mug I got when I was probably 7 or so. I have
tried to carry on the tradition of giving the kids sweet little gifts
and delivering goodies to others to show love and appreciation. I
actually, still have one of my Valentine gifts from my dad... this mug
which is probably 20 years old.
We started the morning with gifts... and Momma got roses. I tried a new recipe for donut muffins which turned out pretty good. They were a hit with the kids, for sure! I will say, donuts are better... and more fattening!
Roses from my Valentine!
Dusty had to work so the kids and I used our time to deliver our goodies and Valentines to several widows and widowers including my grandparents.
I love, love, love this picture of the kids with their great-grandma! She was so excited to see them that she ditched her domino match to visit with us. So, sweet!
Dusty and I got
to celebrate on Thursday with a trip to the city for shopping and
dinner. We planned on seeing a movie but the times were just off for our
timing so we drove home and rented a movie to watch in bed. It was a
great date and I loved spending time with my Valentine! We're thankful for grandparents who were happy to give us a date day!
The kids had their Valentine parties at CDO on Thursday since school was
cancelled on Monday. I did not get a picture of Cayson's Valentines for
his friends but he took bubbles. Taryn took these to her friends. I got
the printable here for them.
