I was planning on posting a happy post about our wonderful weekend, but after the events of today, I don't really feel like it. My heart is heavy tonight...
We took Cayson to visit the fire department this morning so he could look at all the fire trucks. He had a blast and we visited with some of the firemen on duty. I never imagined what the day would hold....
Dusty's fire pager went off shortly after we got home from the fire dept. visit. All firemen were paged to assist Hydro (a town about 7 miles away). Dusty is on call for the police dept so he couldn't go to the fire but he stayed behind to help run the radio and phones.
There was a fire in a grain elevator at the coop in Hydro. Four firemen & 1 EMT were injured and one fireman died saving the lives of the others. It's such a sad event... the fire chief from Hydro was killed trying to save his brother who had fallen into the elevator. His two brothers are both firefighters and were both injured and are hospitalized. This man's poor family. Not only did they lose him, but his two brothers are battling injuries. Another Hydro fireman was injured along with a Weatherford fireman. The injured Weatherford fireman was at the fire dept this morning when we were visiting so it really hits close. Dusty went and visited him at the hospital and he is going to be fine. Please pray for these brave men and their families.
